Ban on receiving all freight trains

On Monday, December 11, 2023, at 8:49 a.m. between Meja and Škrljevo stations, on the Zagreb – Rijeka line, a freight train of Rail Cargo Carrier – Croatia collided with a track motor car of HŽ Infrastruktura. There were no injured persons. The RCC train with 19 wagons of grain, which operated from Koprivnica to Rijeka, did not stop at Meja station for unknown reasons, which was mandatory. After passing through the station, on the open track, it encountered a railway vehicle that serves to maintain railway infrastructure.

The cause of the accident is not yet known. Scene clearing began immediately after the end of the investigation, on December 13, 2023.

The Zagreb Main Station – Rijeka line is closed to traffic between Meja and Škrljevo stations from December 11 to 22 due to renovation.

During this period, passengers will be transported by buses instead of trains on the routes: Plase – Rijeka and vice versa and Vrbovsko – Rijeka and vice versa.

Delays are possible due to special traffic regulation.

The traffic of freight trains in the direction of Rijeka and vice versa is enabled by an alternative transport route through Slovenia and Ilirska Bistrica (SŽ-I) – Šapjana (HŽI) border crossing, until December 22, 2023, that is, until the scene of the incident and railway infrastructure has been repaired.

During the operation of freight trains on the alternative transport route, the lines Rijeka – Šapjane, and Šapjane (HŽ-I) – Pivka (SŽI) will work permanently (24 hours).
