AWB RFC Annual Report 2025 Published

The Annual Report 2025 of the Alpine–Western Balkan Rail Freight Corridor (AWB RFC) has been published, offering a comprehensive overview of the Corridor’s achievements, ongoing activities and future priorities.

The past year marked an important milestone for the Corridor. Following the adoption of Regulation (EU) 2024/1679, the AWB RFC entered a new phase of development with preparations for its enlargement in line with the Western Balkans–Eastern Mediterranean European Transport Corridor (WBEM ETC). The integration process has already begun, bringing together experienced EU partners alongside new infrastructure managers and stakeholders from the Western Balkans.

The report highlights the opportunities created by the Corridor’s expansion, including stronger connections between Central Europe, the Western Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, improved links to European ports, and enhanced international rail freight connectivity. At the same time, it addresses the challenges facing the region, such as infrastructure modernisation, interoperability, capacity management, and the need for closer cross-border cooperation.

Readers will also find an overview of key projects and initiatives undertaken during the reporting period, including efforts to improve operational performance, optimise capacity allocation and reduce delays at border crossings.

As the Corridor continues its transition towards the new European Transport Corridor framework, cooperation between infrastructure managers, railway undertakings, ministries and other stakeholders remains at the heart of its development.

The AWB RFC Annual Report 2025 provides valuable insights into the progress achieved so far and the direction of future activities. All partners and stakeholders are invited to explore the publication and learn more about the initiatives shaping the future of international rail freight transport across the Alpine–Western Balkan region.
