AWB RFC and Baltic-Adriatic RFC Jointly Host Annual RAG/TAG Meeting in Trieste
On 22–23 April 2026, the Alpine–Western Balkan Rail Freight Corridor (AWB RFC), together with the Baltic–Adriatic Rail Freight Corridor, organized the annual Railway Undertaking Advisory Group (RAG) and Terminal Advisory Group (TAG) meeting in Trieste, Italy.
The event gathered the participants representing railway undertakings, terminal operators, ports, infrastructure managers, and other rail freight stakeholders.
The discussions focused on the main challenges affecting international rail freight transport, including:
- The impact of major infrastructure works and overlapping Temporary Capacity Restrictions (TCRs), particularly in Slovenia, Italy, and Hungary.
- Persistent delays at key border crossings, including Dobova and Villa Opicina, where dwell times remain above the 25-minute target.
- Capacity constraints and the need to better align infrastructure development with market requirements, especially regarding the operation of 740-metre freight trains.
- The importance of stronger coordination among Infrastructure Managers and active stakeholder involvement in upcoming European capacity management reforms.
Participants agreed on the need to strengthen cross-border cooperation, improve TCR planning, and continue work on border performance, punctuality, and port-terminal connectivity.
The meeting once again confirmed the value of close cooperation between corridors and stakeholders in supporting a more efficient and competitive European rail freight network.
