Annual Meeting of the Railway and Terminal Advisory Group Held at the Port of Rijeka
Rijeka, September 1–2, 2025 – The Port of Rijeka Authority hosted this year’s annual Railway and Terminal Advisory Group (AWB RFC RAG TAG) meeting, bringing together key stakeholders from across the rail freight and port logistics sectors. The focus of the event was on strategic investments and infrastructure upgrades that are expected to reshape cargo flows across the Alpine–Western Balkan region.
Participants – including representatives of rail infrastructure managers, terminal operators, ministries, and European institutions – had the opportunity to visit the newly modernised Brajdica container terminal, one of the Port’s flagship investment projects. The terminal now features upgraded handling capacity, digital systems for cargo tracking, and improved rail connectivity, aimed at streamlining freight flows across the region.
“Brajdica is now one of the most advanced terminals in the region, offering faster transshipment and better cargo flow toward Central Europe,” said Denis Vukorepa, Director of the Port of Rijeka Authority, during the site visit.
In addition to Brajdica, the delegation was introduced to a range of ongoing and planned strategic investments, including railway infrastructure upgrades, expanded storage facilities, and sustainability-focused solutions, such as emissions reduction technologies and green energy integration.
A key theme of the meeting was the development of the Alpine–Western Balkan Rail Freight Corridor (AWB RFC ), a major European transport route connecting Adriatic ports with inland markets. EU representatives emphasized the importance of cross-border coordination and long-term planning to meet European goals for sustainable freight transport.
The event concluded in a spirit of collaboration, with attendees praising the Port of Rijeka’s growing role as a strategic logistics hub for the Western Balkans and Central Europe.
